Daring Leadership for a Better World

For all of those that know me, you know that I am a huge fan of Dr. Brené Brown. For those that follow her, we know that she has spent the past decade studying the concept of vulnerability and its importance in our lives. In her book Dare to Lead, Dr. Brown expands on her work to explore how we can use vulnerability to show up more powerfully in our work and in the world.

Here are three reasons why Daring Leadership is so important.

1. Daring Leadership Fosters Connection.

To have relationships with others, we must be willing to be vulnerable and authentically ourselves. When we're constantly putting on a façade or holding back parts of ourselves, it isn't easy to create genuine connections with others. But when we're brave enough to show up fully and be vulnerable, we create space for intimacy, trust, and genuine connection. This is just as true in our professional lives as it is in our personal lives.

2. Daring Leadership is Necessary for Innovation.

To come up with new ideas, we must be willing to take risks and sometimes fail. If we're stuck in our comfort zones, we'll never push boundaries or challenge the status quo. But when we dare to lead, we open ourselves up to possibilities we could never have imagined. We also set an example for others who might be too afraid to take risks themselves.

3. Daring Leadership Builds Resilience.

Resilience is what allows us to bounce back from setbacks and failures. It's essential for anyone who wants to make a difference in the world. And it's something that can be developed over time with practice. When we dare to lead, we will undoubtedly face challenges and setbacks along the way—but these experiences will make us stronger and more resilient in the long run.

Leadership isn't easy—but it's worth it. When we dare to lead with our whole hearts, we open up the possibility for authentic connection, innovation, and change in the world. Dr. Brené Brown's research has shown us that vulnerability is at the heart of courage, and that's what daring leadership is all about. If you want to make a difference in your workplace or in the world, start by being vulnerable and authentic—it just might be the most powerful thing you can do.
